Riled up? That’s the title of the workshop or interest group that Ayan facilitated at the Startingbloc Institute for Social Innovation in Boston. For those who heard about us at Startingbloc, welcome to our online abode! We’d love to continue hearing your and others’ views on the subject as we shape our Resume Optimizer project. Also drop us a line if you want to be one of the first to test our beta product when it is released.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week is a worldwide initiative to promote entrepreneurial efforts and aspirations. Running from 16th to 22nd November, Carnegie Mellon was a host organization for the week. People’s Labs participated in the activities of the day devoted to social entrepreneurship. At the Social Innovation Job Fair and Mixer, we were glad to inform people of what we do, meet some recruit candidates, and connect with fellow enterprises and non-profits.

This is no tongue-in-cheek! The Peoples’ Summit was a free educational program of informed dialogue regarding the economic, social and political problems facing the world. It coincided with the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh, and garnered attendance of above 700 people.
People’s Labs had an informational table at the Summit which drew interest from several community organizers! Geeta stirred interest in students who were exploring how to shape their careers to serve the community, by drawing upon what People’s Labs has to offer. Ayan had been involved in the planning and publicity of the Summit, and voluntarily serves as the webmaster of the informative Summit website. He was interviewed at the Summit for a long segment by an independent local television channel, in which he contrasted socio-economic challenges in developing countries and those in the US.

We generated quite a bit of enthusiasm.

People’s Labs got a good response at the Fall 2009 Carnegie Mellon Volunteer Fair! This fair was for students to get a glimpse of local community service opportunities, and provided a platform for students to volunteer with Pittsburgh community organizations, local agencies, and student community-service organizations present at the event. We are excited to work with the volunteers who have signed up to make socio-economic development a reality!
